What is HPL & what is it used for: HPL stands for High-Pressure Laminate. HPL is compose of many layers that have been compressed and laminated under extremely high pressure. This results in a dense, complex and form-retaining sheet (HPL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sheet’s Structure<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An HPL sheet comprises a core of wood fibre or paper and two layers on top. The sheet’s body is made up of layers of paper and wood fibre that has been soaked in phenolic resin. These layers are compresse at high temperatures and under high pressure during production. This resin is called a thermoset. The wax will become hardened when heated. The layers become compacted by compressing and form a thick, rigid sheet. The sheet’s top layers are so dense and hard that moisture and sunlight cannot penetrate them. HPL sheets were first developed for outdoor use in non-residential and residential buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
